Our Story
Founded in 1954, Bowerman's is a testament to a family's dedication to growing exceptional blueberries. William and Winifred Bowerman first planted the seeds (literally!), and their youngest son, Randy, joined the venture after marrying Carol. Together, they nurtured the farm through its early years, balancing blueberry cultivation with cornfields and real estate endeavors until the blueberry bushes matured.
In 1976, Randy and his father built their own greenhouse, demonstrating their unwavering commitment. Their hard work paid off – delicious blueberries began gracing tables in 1982. After buying the farm from his father, Randy transitioned the farm's focus towards fresh berries, and today, nearly 75% of all Bowerman's blueberries are sold fresh.
Bowerman's has flourished under Randy and Carol's leadership. Today, the farm boasts over 90 acres of blueberry bushes, a bustling farm market, and a thriving bakery and cafe nestled in downtown Holland. Working on the farm with Randy and Carol are their children; Tom Parker, Amy's husband, is responsible for farm operations. He directly oversees all of the picking and harvesting activities and pruning on the farm. Andrew VanTil, Kendra’s husband, is responsible for packing house operations. Andrew is also our resident IT specialist and manages our online store as well as equipment maintenance and pest control. Kassie (Bowerman) Grasmanis manages the payroll, accounts receivable and payable, is responsible for food safety, and oversees the farm market bakery. Karl Grasmanis, Kassie's husband, is responsible for off-site farmer's markets, field maintenance, and special projects. All play vital roles in carrying forward the Bowerman legacy.
Bowerman's is a story of family, tradition, and a commitment to quality. It's a place where generations of expertise culminate in fresh, delicious blueberries and a warm, welcoming atmosphere for visitors of all ages.
